The Greek economy shows remarkable resilience and continues to grow at rates higher than the Eurozone average, according to the second quarterly report of IOBE for 2025. Despite international uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, domestic consumption remains strong, unemployment is on a downward path, while investments and exports are shaping the foundations for future growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, behind the positive picture, significant pressures still exist.
Inflation remains persistent and higher than the Eurozone average, eroding the purchasing power of households. Energy costs, although they have de-escalated compared to the peak of the 2022 crisis, appear to have stabilized at a new, increased level compared to the pre-crisis period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, wage costs have increased cumulatively by 25\u201330% since 2022, boosting incomes but weighing on competitiveness, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. In this environment, access to bank lending remains limited, due to strict criteria, high interest rates and lengthy approval processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outlook for the coming years remains positive. GDP is expected to grow by 2.2% in 2025 and 2.4% in 2026. Private consumption is forecast to strengthen in 2025 (+1.8%), although it will slow down in 2026. Investment is estimated to move at a more moderate pace in 2025 (+4.1%), before recording a strong increase in 2026 (+9%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, inflation is expected to decline to 2.8% in 2025 and further to 2.3% in 2026, while unemployment continues its downward trend, from 9.3% to 9.0%, reinforcing the positive economic climate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Exports continue to be a key pillar of the Greek economy, reaching 21% of GDP in 2025, although they are below 2022 levels. Tourism and shipping remain the main drivers, while sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals and metals are also showing momentum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, limited product diversification, small business size and low use of innovation and branding continue to act as inhibitors. Small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for 95% of the total, participate in exports at a relatively low rate (42% in 2022). Growth, partnerships, technology adoption and improved access to financing are critical prerequisites for enhancing their extroversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Significant opportunities are opened up through the available financial tools of the Investment Programs and the Development Law, which can support the transformation and international presence of businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
